September Proclaimed “No Matter What... You Matter” Suicide Prevention Month

The Queen Anne’s County Commissioners have proclaimed September 2026 as “No Matter What... You Matter” Suicide Prevention Month, recognizing the importance of connection, open conversation, early intervention and access to behavioral health support. The Proclamation was presented to For All Seasons, Behavioral Health and Rape Crisis Center.

Suicide continues to be a significant public health concern. According to the proclamation, 630 Maryland residents died by suicide in 2024. Locally, the 2024 Maryland Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance Survey found that 13.9% of Queen Anne’s County high school students reported seriously considering attempting suicide during the previous 12 months, while 6.6% reported attempting suicide. Among middle school students, 17.1% reported ever seriously considering suicide and 6.3% reported ever attempting suicide. 

The proclamation emphasizes that suicide prevention is a shared community responsibility. By encouraging connection, conversation, timely intervention and access to care, our community can help ensure that those experiencing emotional distress know they do not have to face it alone.
